Information for Cadets
General Information:
VMI will conduct a phased release of the Corps of Cadets on 20-21 November for Thanksgiving furlough.
- Departure Schedule:
- 20 Nov: First Classmen, Fifth Year Men, Rats and those cadets who are ride sharing with anyone in this group may depart after completion of academic duty.
- 21 Nov: all remaining Third Classmen may depart immediately following BRC and should depart the Post prior to 1300.
- 21 Nov: following Ring Presentation all Second Classmen are authorized to leave and should depart Post prior to 1800.
- All Furlough Cadet Clearance Instructions are detailed in Appendix 1 of FRAGMENTARY ORDER (FRAGO) #3 (Thanksgiving Furlough/Terminus Fall 2020) to OPLAN
Beginning on 23 Nov, all academic classes will transition online (virtual) format through the end of the semester.
- Faculty will ensure cadets are briefed on the plan for synchronous or asynchronous classes prior to departure
- Cadets participating in online instruction who will be visible to others through virtual means will adhere to summer school dress and appearance standards.
- Cadets who are currently utilizing academic accommodations may contact the Office of Disability Services at 540-464-7667 to discuss any necessary adjustments that may be required.
- VMI academic support centers – the VMI Library, Math Resource Center, Miller Academic Center, Writing Center, and Career Services – will be available virtually to cadets.
- The same academic integrity rules and expectations will apply to the online learning environment. The VMI Honor Code is in effect.
Schedule for the remainder of the fall semester:
- 23-25 Nov: classes as currently schedule but in a virtual format
- 25-29 Nov: Thanksgiving furlough (from CAD 25 Nov)
- 30 Nov – 11 Dec: complete fall semester classes
- 12 Dec: Reading day
- 14-18 Dec: virtual exam period
- 18 Dec: Commissioning Ceremonies
- 19 Dec: Commencement Ceremony for both May 2020 and Dec 2020 graduates
- 19 Dec: Barracks clears and is closed (no cadets remain on Post)
