We make your education dollars go further! VMI works to help applicants who might not otherwise be able to attend, and awards scholarships or other aid for academic and athletic ability. Prospective cadets may also receive ROTC scholarships and earn other non-VMI awards.

VMI’s application process is the same for first time applicants, transfers, and international students. Applications open each year on Aug. 1 for enrollment the following fall semester.
Virginia Military Institute is in historic Lexington, Virginia, nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Our post consists of 59 buildings on a sprawling 200 acres. A visit can offer prospective applicants an up-close and personal look at life of our distinguished cadets and their daily activities. We encourage you to join one of the daily tours, visit with Admissions, attend an event, or spend a weekend with us at an open house.
Daily life at VMI challenges cadets physically, mentally, and academically while instilling character traits built on honor, civility, self-discipline, and lifelong bonds through the “brother rat” spirit. We believe that the measure of a college lies in the quality and performance of its graduates and their contributions to society. High-quality undergraduate academic programs in engineering, science, and the arts prepare cadets for a host of paths after graduation. Military training and the ROTC program carefully and deliberately form future leaders, and our civic engagement programs provide a route to give back to local, national, and global communities.
