Enrollment and Graduation Data

The Mechanical Engineering Department has been in existence since 1941 and, until 1982, served as a service department to the other engineering departments. The degree-bearing ME program, initially implemented in 1982, produced its first graduates in May 1985 and has been a consistently popular major since then.

Destinations Post-VMI

Did you know? Cadets majoring in mechanical engineering are required to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination as a graduation requirement during their 1st Class (senior) year so that in the future they can become registered Professional Engineers.
