Call to Duty Scholarships
Honoring the Commitment to Serve through Financial Support
VMI has a long and storied history of producing military leaders of honor and integrity, ready to serve and defend the nation. Through generous funding – from families, fans, and alumni – the Institute can ease the financial burden of qualified cadets ready to continue that legacy of selfless service.
VMI's Call to Duty Scholarships provide additional funding to qualified, appointed students who are recipients of three and four-year ROTC national scholarships. Call to Duty Scholarships cover housing and food (room and board) not included in the independently-awarded scholarships from the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
TIP: ROTC scholarship funds, eligibility, and deadlines vary from service to service. High school students are encouraged to connect with the ROTC units at VMI early in their college research process for information about specific program requirements and expectations.
Eligibility and Application
This scholarship is an annual award. To keep the scholarship each semester, cadets must continue to demonstrate eligibility for their ROTC scholarship. ROTC units will work with the Office of Financial Aid to determine continued semester eligibility prior to the beginning of each semester.
If you are interested in applying for this exciting opportunity for financial support during your cadetship at VMI, contact the Office of Financial Aid today with any questions regarding eligibility and the application process and timeline.

Why VMI?
While there are many schools across the nation who offer ROTC programs, as a senior military college, VMI’s ROTC program can provide military training at a higher level than programs at civilian colleges and universities. Cadets have access to active-duty bases, field training exercises, and high-ranking military officials on post, a rich and valuable training ground for tomorrow’s officers. The 24-7 military environment on post keeps cadets fit, focused, and ready to learn to lead.
