The Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of two leaders to mission-critical roles at VMI. Dr. Shannon Eskam will serve as VMI’s director of financial aid and Mr. Joseph Hagy will lead the VMI Office of Admissions as its next director.

The Academic Convocation ceremony was held at Virginia Military Institute on Sept. 7 in Cameron Hall, opening the 183rd academic year. Maj. Gen. Cedric T. Wins ’85, superintendent, welcomed back the cadets and faculty, and congratulated the class of 2023 on their leadership of the Corps of Cadets.

Registration is now open for VMI's Annual Leadership and Ethics' Conference titled "Principled Dissent: Navigating Moral Challenges," to be held Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 31 – Nov. 1, in Marshall Hall at Virginia Military Institute.

Julia T. Ward ’26, new incoming cadet, has been awarded the coveted Peay Merit Scholarship to attend Virginia Military Institute, covering the full cost of tuition, room, board, and fees.

Maj. Michael LaRocca, assistant professor of psychology at Virginia Military Institute, will discuss transformational leaders who have inspired and driven change on the public radio program With Good Reason Sept. 10-16.

Retired federal judge J. Michael Luttig will speak on the U.S. Constitution and the Supreme Court during the academic convocation at Virginia Military Institute on Wednesday, September 7, at 10 a.m. in Cameron Hall on Main Street. The event is free and open to the public.

Todd Lee Goen, new director and senior international officer in the office of global education (formerly known as international programs) at Virginia Military Institute, recently won the coveted Lily von Klemperer Award bestowed by NAFSA: Association of International Educators.

Matriculation Day was held at Virginia Military Institute on, Saturday, Aug. 20, beginning the Rat Line for the new academic year. This year is the 183rd year of the Institute and celebrates the 25th anniversary of women at VMI.

The Superintendent regrets to inform the VMI community of the death of longtime VMI employee Francis Watts who passed away July 28 in Lexington at the age of 91.

The Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) honored Wins at a ceremony in early August in Jacksonville, Florida during its 102nd National Convention.
