They say nothing can prepare you for the Rat Line, but there are ways to ease into the rigors of Virginia Military Institute. One option is for incoming rats to participate in the Summer Transition Program (STP). You’re able to get a class under your belt while familiarizing yourself with post.

Those at STP can also participate in resilience workshops, which started in 2017. Each year, the workshops have evolved, based on the feedback from previous years. This year, there were three sessions: Rat Rhythm, Stress Less, and Mental Fitness. There were also yoga sessions students could attend.

As the summer heats up, so does the intensity of physical training at Virginia Military Institute. Summer Transition Program (STP) participants are hard at work in morning PT sessions, an essential element in preparing them for the challenges they will face during their first year at VMI.
