Gene Scott ’80 has worked in the information technology industry for more than 35 years with Fortune 100 enterprise and government customers. He is the president of the Central Virginia Track and Field Club of Richmond, a nonprofit organization with the goal of assisting student-athletes to reach their full potential. Prior to his retirement, Scott was the director of business management and technology for an IT consulting firm. He was responsible for maintaining and driving profitable growth with the focus on enterprise cloud, mobility, security, and professional services.

Scott was also the regional vice president for Verizon Enterprise Solutions where he led a veteran sales organization for large public sector clients. He held sales leadership positions for several next-generation start-up technology companies within the IT applications solutions, software, and network integration industry, as well as various sales, operations and engineering positions within Verizon.

Scott is a retired U.S. Army Reserve Officer and holds a degree in economics from VMI as a distinguished military graduate. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in information systems/computer science and a master’s degree in marketing from the University of Maryland. While a cadet, he was a co-captain of the Southern Conference championship track team. He was a conference long jump and two-time triple jump champion and record holder.

He has previously served on the board of directors for the Henrico Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on educational achievement by creating community partnerships that secure resources essential for success in Henrico County Public Schools.
