The VMI Superintendent Search Committee, whose membership includes more than two members of the VMI Board of Visitors, is conducting a meeting on 1 May 2021, from 12:00p.m. to 12:15p.m. at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia in the Center for Leadership and Ethics. The meeting is open to the public..
Following a professional, thoughtful, and thorough search, the VMI Board of Visitors has voted to appoint Maj. Gen. Cedric T. Wins '85 to the position of superintendent. The Institute looks forward to the continued leadership of MG Wins, who has served as interim superintendent since November 2020.
The VMI Board of Visitors will hold a public meeting on Thursday, 15 April 2021 beginning at 10:00 a.m. via video teleconference at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. The board will meet for the purpose of notifying the public of their intent to vote on the selection of the next Superintendent of the Institute. Maj. Gen. Wins '85, VMI interim superintendent, explains five outcomes to move the Institute forward - honor, diversity and inclusion, a VMI-defined brand, competing and winning, and a unified VMI. The video is available for viewing.
The officer, who will report to the superintendent, will liaison with the recently formed Board of Visitors Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, as well as with the Commonwealth’s chief diversity officer and associated offices within the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. WK will be conducting virtual listening sessions with cadets, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents/guardians in the coming days and weeks. Information will be sent to affected parties as it becomes available. Retired Maj. Gen. Cedric T. Wins will serve as interim superintendent of the Virginia Military Institute following an affirmative vote by the VMI Board of Visitors Executive Committee. Maj. Gen. Wins is a 34-year veteran of the U.S. Army and a 1985 graduate of the Institute.
