IT Specialist/System Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate for IT Specialist/System Engineer position to join the team of a DoD-funded Cyber Defense Laboratory (CyDef). Candidates must be interested in IT system infrastructure design, setup, configuration and administration related duties. The candidate must have strong working knowledge of desktop and server operating systems including Windows, Mac and Linux, network protocols and virtualization. The individual in this role will also be responsible for leading and supporting day to day operations.

This position will focus on:

  • Set-up, configuration and administration of experimental cybersecurity infrastructure and applications
  • Build small size network and testbeds that involves configuring routers, switches, and IoT devices
  • Configure and manage virtualization environments ( Ex open stack, vSphere)
  • Good programming skills in java, python, and shell scripting
  • Configuring and managing servers and related equipment for the CyDef Lab
  • Supervising a team of VMI cadets to support IT system engineering tasks
  • Work on advancing compliance, design of robust, and secure IT solutions

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining cyber infrastructure, addressing security needs, providing desktop/end user support and other technology related duties
  • Implementation and basic support such as hardware installations, network upgrades and communications system support
  • Setting up, maintaining, and monitoring servers, desktops, network equipment, and back up in accordance with all IT policies, plans, and guidelines
  • Diagnosing and operating complex computer systems
  • Respond to all user, system and network security incidents
  • Coordinates with CIS IT Manager and VMI IT Services department on issues pertaining to the campus-wide and colocation network infrastructure
  • Programming and scripting as needed for CyDef Lab administration and operation, managing cadets, and supporting the IT Manager
  • Excellent documentation and inventory management
  • Handling multiple assignments as assigned by the CyDef Director of Operations
  • Managing the short and long-term technology strategy of CyDef Lab as outlined by the Director of Operations
  • Set up and maintain LAN/WAN technologies or protocols, including but not limited to wired/wireless LAN environments, data center networking, intranet/extranet environments

 Required Qualifications:

  • Proof of US Citizenship or permanent residency
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or related fields
  • 2-3 years of related experience in desktop support, troubleshooting, and administering Windows and Mac based.
  • 2-3 years of related experience in network programming, troubleshooting network connectivity, cybersecurity issues, and related technologies

Salary is based on qualifications and experience. 

This is a full-time position with competitive salary and benefits package.

This position is fully funded by a DoD grant for the first two years and may be extended based on securing additional funds. This position is expected to be performed on-site.
