Locksmith Assistant

Virginia Military Institute is accepting applications for a full-time Locksmith Assistant.

Job Duties:

  • Manufacture keys and cores, install and repair lock systems and hardware.
  • Works with building coordinators concerning key requests.
  • Assist the locksmith with maintaining over 3000 mechanical and electronic openings on post. This includes all electronic and mechanical hardware, closers, hinges, and the door covering. 
  • Assist Locksmith with VMI’s electronic access control system. 
  • Works well independently and with others in a team environment and the general public.
  • Supports all special events as needed. 
  • Possess ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Upholds the established appearance and conduct standards to ensure the VMI Physical Plant organization is represented to the highest level and respected in the VMI community 
  • Identified as essential personnel for the purpose of responding to emergencies and/or natural disasters 
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong computer skills
  • Good communication skills 
  • Problem solving skills 
  • Adaptability
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with clean driving record required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good understanding of the Schlage Management System 
  • Be familiar with Sitemaster and Keystone key management systems 
  • Extensive experience in the maintenance field 
  • Trades License and/or certifications 
  • High School Graduate or GED.

Starting salary $30,000 - $33,000 depending on qualifications/experience, plus generous benefits package
