Director of Track & Field/Cross Country

Virginia Military Institute is accepting applications for a Director of Track & Field/Cross Country.  The position is responsible for all aspects of the cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field programs in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at the Virginia Military Institute. It has supervisory responsibility for the full-time assistant coaching staff and any volunteers. The position reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics or his/her designee. In addition, absolute commitment to NCAA rules and regulations, budget management, and support of VMI and its mission are paramount.

Responsibilities & Duties: 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage programs with strict compliance to all Institute, Southern Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Clear expression of commitment to academic performance of cadet athletes and understanding of APR and associated academic requirements.
  • Effectiveness in recruiting and representing VMI and the cross country/track programs.
  • Successfully manage scholarship budget and develop strategic plan for competitive advancement of programs.
  • Contribute to meet scheduling, management and operational needs of indoor track facility.
  • Develop and supervise work plans and performance goals for assistant coaches with specific commitment to operating within human resource expectations of VMI.
  • Ability to manage budget, operational resources and strategic planning.
  • Work cooperatively with the sports medicine staff, strength and conditioning personnel and other departmental team members for the advancement of the programs.
  • Support the VMI system and represent the Institute with integrity and professionalism.
  • Commitment to working effectively with alumni relations and donor community under the guidance of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Other duties as assigned and consistent with position and qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree as well as collegiate coaching experience.
  • In addition, absolute commitment to NCAA rules and regulations and support and understanding of VMI and its mission are paramount.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, 12-month employment with benefits package.
