Officer-in-Charge (Part-Time)

Virginia Military Institute is seeking qualified applicants for hourly wage Officer-in-Charge (OC) positions. The successful candidate will act as the Commandant’s representative in the Cadet Barracks. Primary responsibilities of the Officers-in-Charge is to ensure the safety, well-being and security of cadets and the VMI Barracks during non-duty hours and to serve as “first-responders” to any emergencies or incidents which may occur. OCs are also responsible for maintaining proper order and discipline in the barracks and ensuring that cadets comply with VMI regulations and directives.
Duties include responding to cadet inquiries, ensuring proper quiet during study hours and conducting a minimum of two inspections per shift, one prior to taps and the second, essentially a “bed check”, conducted after 1:30AM.
This is an hourly position, with service throughout the academic year from early-August through mid-May, and the wear of a military uniform is required. Duty hours are from 10:00PM – 8:00AM.
Wage employees are not eligible for benefits.
Applicants should have demonstrated leadership experience with previous military experience a plus. Experience working with young adults in a structured environment is preferred.
